HomeSoil Care, Lakewood Ranch, FL

Genesis Sprinklers and Water Management offers soil care for lawns and planting beds in Lakewood Ranch and across Manatee and Sarasota Counties: soil testing and natural soil amendments such as compost. Genesis does not apply fertilizer, herbicides or pesticides.

Want your lawn mowed and your sprinklers checked by one company? See Genesis Lawn Care: mowing at one flat monthly rate, with a monthly sprinkler wet check included.

What soil care includes

  • Soil testing. We start by testing the soil in your lawn and beds, so anything we add is based on what the soil actually needs.
  • Natural soil amendments. Compost and similar natural materials, worked into planting beds and spread over lawns.
  • Watering that matches the soil. As an irrigation company, we set your sprinkler schedule zone by zone to how your soil takes and holds water.

Our turf and soil practices follow UF/IFAS guidance. UF/IFAS notes that organic matter such as compost helps Florida’s sandy soils hold water and nutrients.

Soil care and your sprinklers

Most of our work is irrigation. When we test and amend your soil, we look at how your sprinkler system waters the same ground, so the soil and the watering work together. See our irrigation services in Lakewood Ranch.

Where we work

We serve homes, HOAs and commercial properties across Manatee and Sarasota Counties:

Manatee County: Lakewood Ranch, Bradenton, Parrish, Palmetto, Ellenton, Anna Maria Island and Bradenton Beach.
Sarasota County: Sarasota, Siesta Key and Longboat Key.

Soil care questions

Do you fertilize lawns?

No. We test your soil and improve it with natural amendments such as compost. We apply no fertilizer, herbicide or pesticide.

What does a soil test tell you?

A soil test shows your soil’s pH and how much organic matter it holds, and points to what it is short of. UF/IFAS recommends testing soil before adding anything to it, so what we add is based on what your soil actually needs.

Why does sandy Florida soil need amendments?

Much of the soil in Manatee and Sarasota Counties is sandy and drains fast, so water runs past the roots. UF/IFAS notes that organic matter such as compost helps sandy soils hold water and nutrients.

How do sprinklers affect soil health?

Too much water soaks straight through sandy soil past the roots, and too little leaves the roots dry. Setting each sprinkler zone to how your soil takes in and holds water keeps the moisture where the roots are. We are an irrigation company, so we set your sprinklers as part of soil care.
